Police Request Arrest Warrants for 9 Business Owners and Customers... 5 Denied by Prosecution
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Byung-don] The prosecution has requested arrest warrants for four individuals, including the owner, suspected of operating an illegal gambling den worth approximately 62 billion KRW in the heart of downtown Seoul.
On the 29th, the Seoul Southern District Prosecutors' Office announced that it had requested arrest warrants for two people, including Cho, who is suspected of operating a holdem pub in Magok-dong, Gangseo-gu, Seoul (charge: establishment of a gambling space), and two others, including Yoo, who are suspected of habitual gambling (charge: habitual gambling).
The pre-arrest detention hearing (warrant substantive examination) for these individuals is scheduled to be held at 10:30 a.m. on the 1st of next month at the Seoul Southern District Court.
Earlier, the Gangseo Police Station in Seoul applied for arrest warrants on charges of establishing a gambling den and organizing a criminal group against a total of nine people, including these suspects, but the prosecution decided to dismiss the warrants for the remaining five individuals.
After multiple 112 emergency calls were made from the establishment since early this year, the police applied for a financial account warrant from the court to investigate the flow of money, confirming that approximately 62 billion KRW had circulated in transactions over the past year.
Forty-one people who participated in operating the gambling den or placed bets exceeding 100 million KRW were booked, and 14 were sent to the prosecution.
