50% Completion of Dolsan Sports Park at San 1-7, Segok-dong, Gangnam-gu... Dongjak-gu Connects Guksabong Forest Separated by Road

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gangnam-gu (District Mayor Jo Seong-myeong) is accelerating the construction of Dolsan Sports Park, being developed over an area of 43,968㎡ in San 1-7, Segok-dong, aiming for completion in the first half of next year.

With a project budget of approximately 9.6 billion KRW, Dolsan Sports Park, the first sports park in Gangnam-gu, decided to be developed as a public sports facility after gathering various opinions through a residents' briefing session in July this year. Construction began in March and the progress rate has now exceeded 50%.

Dolsan Sports Park, which is four and a half times the size of a soccer field, will include one soccer field, four tennis courts, a multipurpose sports ground, fitness facilities, walking trails, access roads, and 63 parking spaces. It will feature a regulation-size soccer field, three tracks sufficient for athletes to warm up, and spacious spectator stands that can comfortably accommodate over 400 viewers. Additionally, the originally planned three tennis courts have been increased to four to allow more tennis enthusiasts to enjoy the facilities.

Furthermore, a 600m circular walking trail will be constructed within the park. The central path of the trail will feature transplanted existing Metasequoia trees, creating a photo spot.

Besides these, a multipurpose sports ground and a lawn plaza of about 1,000㎡ will be created as spaces accessible to everyone, expected to become a popular destination for family outings.

In the future, Dolsan Sports Park will be connected with the adjacent Yulhyeon Park (44,920㎡) and the planned Suseo Station Area Restoration Park (tentative name) (157,353㎡), scheduled for development in 2025, contributing to enhancing residents' quality of life as the premier sports park facility in Gangnam-gu.

Jo Seong-myeong, Mayor of Gangnam-gu, stated, “The construction of Dolsan Sports Park, where Gangnam-gu residents can enjoy both sports culture and leisure activities, is progressing smoothly. We will pay close attention to safety and meticulously manage even the smallest details to complete it by the first half of next year, aiming to make it the best sports park in Korea.”

50% Completion of Dolsan Sports Park at San 1-7, Segok-dong, Gangnam-gu... Dongjak-gu Connects Guksabong Forest Separated by Road

Dongjak-gu (District Mayor Park Il-ha) announced on the 28th that it will create a green space connecting the green corridor of Guksabong (Sangdo Neighborhood Park) by June 2023.

The area near Guksabong Middle School was separated by a road, causing inconvenience and danger for residents using the Dongjak Chung-hyo Trail Course 6, a walking path from Guksabong to Soongsil University Station, as they had to descend from Guksabong, cross the road, and climb the mountain again.

Accordingly, the district will create a green connection path linking the Guksabong green corridor, which has been divided by the road for the past half-century.

The green connection path, unlike typical ecological corridors, is a mixed structure combining a walking trail and a wildlife passage, serving as a pedestrian bridge to allow users easy access to the opposite side.

To naturally connect Guksabong, a gently sloping bridge 11m wide and 20m long will be installed, and various plants such as pine trees and wildflowers will be planted to provide seasonal visual attractions.

Additionally, to minimize discomfort for wildlife, native tree species similar to the natural state will be planted, and entrances harmonizing with the landscape will be installed to create a wildlife passage.

The green connection path began with a preliminary feasibility study in 2020 and has undergone various procedures including basic and detailed design services, with completion expected by June 2023.

From the second half of next year, the popular Guksabong trail will be linked with the nearby Seodal Mountain trail, transforming into a more valuable walking path where residents can heal and relax.

Park Il-ha, District Mayor, said, “Once the Guksabong green space is completed, the urban forest function will be strengthened. We will strive to create and manage forests and parks to ensure a safe and pleasant environment for residents.”
