Jangseong-gun Holds 'Baekyang Maple Festival' for the First Time in 4 Years

[Jangseong=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Jo Hangyu] Jangseong-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 25th that it will hold the ‘Baekyang Maple Festival’ at Baekyangsa Temple from the 29th to the 30th.

This festival, held for the first time in four years due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, will feature performances on a special stage in front of Baekyangsa Daeungjeon Hall from 2 PM to 4 PM.

On the first day, the 29th, the event will begin with Gayageum Byeongchang by the Maehyeon Traditional Arts Preservation Society, followed by trot singers such as Park Jindo and Minji, master singer Kim Younghee, and tenor Park Kyungwan taking the stage.

On the 30th, singers Nam Jin, Kim Yongrim, and Jin Jua will perform, marking the highlight of the Baekyang Maple Festival.

While the concert boasts grandeur, the experience programs are simple and heartwarming.

Activities include stacking sweet persimmons, pounding glutinous rice cakes, and tasting Garaetteok, all using Jangseong’s specialty sweet persimmons. There are also various attractions and activities such as a quiz themed on the Baekyang Maple Festival, maple caricatures, traditional tea tasting, a wooden fish exhibition, and an exhibition by painter Oh Yunseok.

An excellent agricultural specialty product market where visitors can find Jangseong’s agricultural specialties will also be held near Iljumun Gate, and it will operate until the 13th of next month after the festival ends.

A county official said, “There is no place in the country with autumn scenery as beautiful as Jangseong Baekyangsa,” adding, “We hope everyone will have a meaningful time and beautiful memories at the Baekyang Maple Festival, held for the first time in four years, on the weekend when the maple leaves turn red.”

The area near Baekyangsa Temple, where the festival is held, is famous for its small and charming baby maples, about the size of a child’s palm, which line the path from the entrance to Baekyangsa Temple in a dense arrangement.

In spring, they sparkle in light green, and in autumn, they wear colorful hues, harmonizing with the ancient temple and the scenic Baekamsan Mountain, offering deep emotional impressions. This is why the theme of this year’s festival is ‘A Gift from Autumn, Colorful Baby Maples.’
