[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heeyoon] As demand for overseas travel increases, the number of airline ticket bookings has surged dramatically.

According to Interpark on the 25th, the number of overseas airline ticket bookings on Interpark from the 1st to the 22nd of this month increased by 1336.3% compared to the same period last year. This figure is 74.9% higher than the previous month. It is analyzed that the recent lifting of COVID-19 restrictions worldwide has significantly increased the number of people traveling abroad by air.

By route share, Japan ranked first with 48.2%. In particular, the number of airline ticket bookings to Japan surged by 589.3% compared to the previous month, showing a triple-digit growth rate alone among various routes.

This is attributed to the full lifting of visa-free personal travel for foreigners by the Japanese government starting from the 11th and the effect of the weak yen. Following Japan were Southeast Asia at 36.2%, Europe at 5.6%, Oceania at 5.2%, and the Americas at 4.8%.

Park Junghyun, Head of Interpark's Aviation Business Division, said, "As the popularity of nearby Japan and Southeast Asia air routes surges, we are conducting various airline ticket purchase promotions to allow customers to enjoy overseas travel at more reasonable prices," adding, "Through Interpark's unique benefits such as the lowest price guarantee and mixed round-trip tickets, we plan to strengthen our position as the nation's top airline ticket reservation platform."
