ANP to Start Construction of Affiliate NBMK's Pyeongtaek Plant Within the Year... Foundation for Silicon Anode Material Business

[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Hyowon] ANP's affiliate Neo Battery Materials Korea (hereinafter NBMK) has established a production base for its full-scale secondary battery material business.

Canadian listed company Neo Battery Materials (hereinafter NBM) announced on the 25th that NBMK will set up factory facilities within the Pyeongtaek Osong Industrial Complex to produce silicon anode materials. They plan to submit a building permit to Pyeongtaek City in December.

NBMK is a subsidiary of NBM, a Canada-based company specializing in nano-coating of silicon anode materials. NBM is promoting commercialization after acquiring core silicon anode material technology from Yonsei University Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation.

Currently, the capacity of graphite-based anode materials mainly used in secondary batteries is 270?370mAh/g, whereas NBM's silicon anode material "NBMSiDE" has an initial capacity of 2130?2695mAh/g, which is significantly higher. Additionally, unlike Si-C (silicon-carbon) anode materials manufactured by combining silicon and carbon, NBMSiDE is produced by processing Metal Si (metallic silicon) and then coating it, resulting in lower manufacturing costs and superior productivity.

An NBMK official stated, "Our primary goal is to mass-produce 240 tons of silicon anode materials annually at the Pyeongtaek factory," adding, "We also plan to expand production capacity up to 4,000 tons per year depending on customer demand."

Meanwhile, ANP is restructuring its business to target the upcoming era of electric and autonomous vehicles. It is expanding its business areas from interior materials to secondary battery materials.

In July, ANP acquired a 40% stake in NBMK to enter the secondary battery business. Recently, it also acquired RN2 Technology, which holds technology for secondary battery protection devices.
