Jeonnam City and County Council Chairs Association Urges Jindo National Road Route Change and Jodo Bridge Construction

[Jindo=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Namjoong] The Jeonnam City and County Council Chairpersons Association adopted a petition for the "Route Change of National Road No. 18 in Jindo-gun and Construction of Jodo Bridge" and urged various government ministries including the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.

The Jeonnam City and County Council Chairpersons Association held a meeting on the 19th at Hampyeong County Art Museum, hosted by Hampyeong County Council, to discuss measures for balanced national development and improvement of residential conditions for island residents.

In the petition, it stated, "Jodo in Jindo-gun, blessed with natural scenery, possesses beautiful tourism resources and agricultural and marine products such as seaweed, anchovies, mugwort, and abalone, producing about 3,500 tons annually," adding, "Currently, transportation is only possible by ship, which greatly hinders the economic activities of island residents, and in cases of emergency patients, inconvenient transportation often endangers precious lives."

It further emphasized, "To fulfill the presidential pledges of 'Establishing a Marine Ecotourism and Recreation Belt' and 'Constructing a Land Bridge between Jindo and Jodo,' this project must be promoted without fail."

Jang Youngwoo, chairman of Jindo County Council who proposed the petition, stated, "The Jodo Bridge Construction Promotion Committee was formed in February to connect Jindo and Jodo, a long-cherished wish of Jindo residents, and efforts are underway to advance the project."

Chairman Jang stressed, "The project must be promptly promoted to respond to the crisis of local extinction and to improve the residential conditions of island residents."
