[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunwoo Lee] On the 21st, the CEO of the construction company at the site of the new cold storage warehouse in Anseong-si, Gyeonggi Province, where an accident caused five casualties, visited the site and bowed his head in apology.


SGC E-Tech Construction CEO An Chankyu visited the accident site in Oegacheon-ri, Wongok-myeon, Anseong-si, around 4 p.m. on the 23rd, read an apology statement, and promised to prevent recurrence. CEO An said, "I express my deep condolences to those who lost their lives in this tragic accident and pray for the repose of the deceased," and added, "I sincerely apologize to the bereaved families and the victims."


He continued, "The company is actively cooperating with related organizations such as the police and health authorities to accurately identify the cause of this accident as soon as possible," and added, "We will not evade any responsibility and will do everything possible to manage the situation and do our best to resolve it."


When asked by reporters whether there are specific measures to prevent recurrence, CEO An replied, "Since the investigation into the cause of the accident is currently underway, we will comprehensively review and apply measures to prevent recurrence accordingly."


Earlier, the accident occurred around 1:05 p.m. on the 21st when the formwork collapsed down to the 3rd floor during concrete pouring work on the 4th floor at the KY Logistics cold storage warehouse construction site. At the time of the accident, five workers fell about 10 meters below; three died, and two were injured in the head and other areas and are receiving treatment.


SGC E-Tech Construction stated that immediately after the accident, company employees were stationed at the hospital where the bereaved families of the deceased workers and the injured are staying to provide support for funerals and treatment and to discuss compensation.
