[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] The number of new COVID-19 cases has been increasing for three consecutive days compared to a week ago.


The Central Disease Control Headquarters announced on the 23rd at midnight that 26,256 new COVID-19 cases were confirmed, bringing the total to 25,297,334.


The number of new cases on this day decreased slightly by 650 from the previous day (26,906). However, it is 4,800 more than a week ago on the 16th (21,456) and 8,610 more than two weeks ago on the 9th (17,646).


The number of new cases has been rising for three consecutive days compared to the previous week since the 21st. The increase has also grown, with 1,179 on the 21st, 4,074 on the 22nd, and 4,800 on the 23rd. Over the past week from the 17th, the daily new cases were 11,025 → 33,223 → 29,493 → 25,382 → 24,751 → 26,906 → 26,256, averaging 25,291 per day.


Experts predict that the subdued COVID-19 resurgence may intensify again in November to December as winter approaches.


Among the confirmed cases on this day, 67 were imported cases, an increase of 19 from the previous day (48). Excluding imported cases, there were 26,189 domestic infections.


The number of confirmed cases by region (including imported cases) is as follows: Gyeonggi 7,600, Seoul 5,176, Incheon 1,660, Gyeongbuk 1,615, Daegu 1,205, Busan 1,193, Gyeongnam 1,283, Gangwon 834, Chungnam 1,022, Daejeon 883, Chungbuk 711, Jeonbuk 855, Jeonnam 657, Gwangju 611, Ulsan 534, Sejong 219, Jeju 166, Quarantine 32.


As of midnight, the number of critically ill patients in care was 212, an increase of 16 from the previous day (196). The number of deaths due to COVID-19 on the previous day was 16, six fewer than the day before (22). Among the new deaths, 10 (62.5%) were aged 80 or older, 3 were in their 70s, 1 in their 60s, and 2 in their 50s. The cumulative death toll is 28,990, with a cumulative fatality rate of 0.11%.
