The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the National Institute of the Korean Language recommended on October 19 that the term "microtourism" be replaced with the Korean expression "geungeori yeohaeng," meaning "nearby travel." They also suggested "du jiyeoksari," meaning "living in two regions," as a Korean alternative to "dual life."

Microtourism refers to traveling to areas close to one's home base. The Ministry and the Institute reviewed the appropriateness and usability of the term at a neologism meeting on October 5 and decided to adopt "geungeori yeohaeng" as the replacement. The final selection reflected the results of a survey. In a public acceptance survey conducted from October 7 to 13 with about 2,000 participants, 84.2% of respondents said the replacement was appropriate. Additionally, 77.2% agreed on the need to replace foreign terms with Korean alternatives.

Dual life refers to a lifestyle in which a person alternates between residences in a city and a rural area. The Ministry and the Institute selected "du jiyeoksari" as the appropriate Korean term.

The neologism meeting is a committee that provides easy-to-understand Korean alternatives to difficult foreign neologisms before they become widespread. Experts from various fields-including Korean language, foreign languages, education, public relations and publishing, information and communications, and the media-participate in the committee. The Ministry and the Institute plan to continue promoting the use of these alternatives, encouraging government agencies and media outlets to take the lead.
