Global Stock Market Slump... Q3 Foreign Currency Securities Settlement Amount $88 Billion, Down 9.5% QoQ

[Asia Economy Reporter Minji Lee] The Korea Securities Depository announced on the 13th that the settlement amount of foreign currency securities in the third quarter recorded $88.02 billion, down 9.5% compared to the second quarter. The custody amount was $80.83 billion, down 3.2% from the previous quarter.


In terms of settlement amount, foreign currency stocks amounted to $68.29 billion, down 8.2% from the previous quarter, and foreign currency bonds amounted to $19.73 billion, a 14% decrease during the same period.


By market, the settlement amount by overseas market showed that the United States accounted for the largest share at 78.4% of the total settlement amount. The top five markets?United States, Euro market, Hong Kong, China, and Japan?accounted for 99.6% of the total settlement amount. Among these, the United States accounted for 93.7% of the total foreign currency stock settlement size, which decreased by 8.9% compared to the previous quarter.


By item, the top foreign currency stock settlement items were Tesla, ProShares UltraPro QQQ ETF, ProShares UltraPro Short QQQ ETF, and Direxion Daily Semiconductor Bull 3X Shares ETF, with all top 10 items being U.S. stocks.


Tesla, the top item in the second quarter, recorded a settlement amount of $7.31 billion in the third quarter, down 25.5% from the previous quarter. The ProShares UltraPro Short QQQ ETF's third-quarter settlement amount was $6.11 billion, up 13.5% from the previous quarter.


In terms of custody amount, foreign currency stocks were $59.44 billion, down 4.7% from the previous quarter, while foreign currency bonds were $21.39 billion, up 1.1% during the same period.


By overseas market, the country with the largest custody amount was the United States, accounting for 64.9% of the total custody amount. The U.S. accounted for 86.6% of the total foreign currency stock custody size, down 2.6% from the previous quarter. The top custody items were Tesla, Apple, Alphabet A, Microsoft, and Nvidia. The top 10 custody items accounted for 47.8% of the total foreign currency stock custody amount ($54.94 billion).
