What’s the Story Behind Kim Kyung-ho, Gwangjin District Mayor, Singing the Trot Song 'Mujogeon' with Clumsy Skills?

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] On the 7th, Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, took the stage for a busking performance at Konkuk University Entrance Youth Terrace, engaging in a meeting with MZ generation youth.

The event titled 'On-site, Meeting the Youth' was organized to mark 100 days since the launch of the 8th term of the elected government, where Mayor Kim personally visited places where residents gather to communicate and set the direction of district administration.

The day's performances included ▲ singer-songwriter Kang Chan-gyu’s emotional busking ▲ a meeting between Mayor Kim Kyung-ho and university students ▲ and Na Il-jun’s dazzling juggling performance busking.

"If you could go back to your university days, what would be the thing you most want to do and the thing you regret?",

"I live alone in Gwangjin-gu and received the single-person household safety home set support. Please expand welfare for youth as well,"

"Please help the MZ generation participate widely in Gwangjin-gu’s cultural and artistic policies!"

The MZ generation youth posed various questions and challenges to Mayor Kim, who expressed a desire to create a district where young people can be happy.

Regretting that he could not devote himself to sports and musical instruments during his university days, Mayor Kim introduced the ‘Gwangjin-gu Youth Portal,’ which will serve as a strong supporter for youth, actively presenting policies that can practically help young people, such as housing, welfare, jobs, and support for cultural, artistic, and sports clubs.

Mayor Kim said, “It was really great to hear the real concerns and wishes of young people directly and vividly on-site. We will actively reflect on the opinions given today,” adding, “Gwangjin-gu has various channels where residents can propose necessary policies, such as the communication room with the mayor, the mayor’s direct phone number, and the youth policy communication board. I want young people to keep presenting challenges, and for the district to think about and solve them, continuously communicating to become friends who empower each other.”

Following this, Mayor Kim participated in the busking by singing the trot song ‘Mujogeon’ (Unconditionally). His awkward and unpolished performance rather stimulated the retro sensibility and interest of the MZ generation, creating a unique opportunity to understand each other and ignite passionate energy.

A university student who happened to watch the busking said, “I always thought the district office was just a place to get documents, but today I learned that they also support exam fees and provide free security items for those living alone. I should look into it,” adding, “The mayor seems not very good at singing, which makes him more endearing.”

At Konkuk University Entrance Youth Terrace, as part of the Neungdong-ro Youth Culture and Arts Street project, busking performances are held every Friday at 6 p.m. until the end of October.

Additionally, diverse busking performances supported jointly by Gwangjin-gu Office, the Cultural Foundation, and local university Campus Town project teams continue throughout October at Lotte Department Store Plaza, Neungdong-ro Fountain Plaza, and in front of the Children’s Grand Park main gate, providing enjoyment to the public.
