Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio Considers Installation of Private Shelters

[Asia Economy Reporter Eunju Lee] Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida stated on the 6th that "we are considering the installation of civilian shelters in preparation for ballistic missile attacks."

According to Kyodo News, Prime Minister Kishida made this remark during a government questioning session in the House of Representatives in the afternoon. He also said, "We will make every effort to collect, analyze, and monitor information, including North Korea's movements, and firmly protect the lives of the Japanese people and their peaceful lives by closely coordinating with related countries."

This appears to be in response to criticism that arose when North Korea's intermediate-range ballistic missile (IRBM) passed over Japanese airspace on the 4th, and although the Japanese government issued evacuation orders to residents in the missile's path, there were insufficient civilian shelters available.
