Gwangju University Holds the 12th Nightingale Oath Ceremony

232 Second-Year Students Pledge Responsibility and Duty

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Gwangju University (President Kim Dongjin) announced that it held the ‘12th Nightingale Oath Ceremony’ on the afternoon of the 6th at the main auditorium on the first floor of Hosimgwan Hall.

232 second-year nursing students pledged through a candlelight ceremony to inherit the noble spirit and mission of Nightingale and to fulfill their responsibilities and duties for the development and well-being of humanity.

President Kim Dongjin said, “You have worked tirelessly for this solemn and noble moment and stand proudly here today based on those efforts,” adding, “I ask you to become Nightingale’s successors who create a warm world through love and dedication to the sick and weak.”

Vice President Ji Hyeryeon of the Gwangju Nurses Association said, “The Nightingale Oath Ceremony is a meaningful event that inherits the nursing spirit of our predecessors,” and added, “I hope you become nurses who respect human life, share pain and suffering, and remember grace.”

The Department of Nursing at Gwangju University has established itself as a cradle for nurturing nursing talents representing the region, with all examinees passing the ‘62nd National Nursing Examination’ held this year.

In particular, it has taken the lead in strengthening student capabilities through enhanced clinical practice and practical education, having acquired a 4-year accreditation in the ‘3rd Cycle Nursing Education Accreditation Evaluation’ conducted by the Korea Accreditation Board of Nursing Education and being selected as an excellent case institution in the Ministry of Health and Welfare’s ‘2020 Nursing College Practice Education Support Project.’

Additionally, the graduate school’s nursing department operates master’s and doctoral degree programs to support students in continuing their studies, obtaining certifications, and securing employment.
