Laying the Foundation for Designation as the World's Largest 'Island National Garden'
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Jae-kyung] On the 4th, Sinan-gun, Jeollanam-do held the 1st Sinan-gun Garden Day commemorative ceremony at the performance hall on the 2nd floor of Sinan-gun Office.
The ceremony was attended by about 250 people interested in spreading garden culture, including Lim Sang-seop, Deputy Director of the Korea Forest Service. The Garden Day event was designated according to the "Ordinance on the Designation of Sinan-gun Municipal Gardens and the Promotion of the Garden Culture Industry," establishing October 4th, symbolizing the 1004 Islands Sinan, as Garden Day.
First, through a report on the status of the creation of one theme garden per island, a key policy of Sinan-gun, the achievements and future plans of garden creation were reported, including 11 completed sites such as bonsai, hydrangea, and tulip gardens, 7 sites under construction, and 6 sites planned.
In addition, on the 20th of last month, plaques were issued for the bonsai, tulip, hydrangea, and red plum blossom gardens designated as municipal gardens by the Sinan-gun Garden Culture Promotion Committee. Finally, a performance praying for the designation of the "Island National Garden," the world's largest garden on the sea, was held with the cheers of all attendees.
Park Woo-ryang, Mayor of Sinan-gun, said in his commemorative speech, "We will create a world-class national garden representing Korea and make Sinan-gun a beautiful island that everyone wants to visit at least once," adding, "Happiness does not come from high income, but from cultivating elegant and beautiful gardens to create spaces where all local governments and people can empathize and be happy together."
Sinan-gun's garden creation project is being carried out systematically and distinctively on each island while preserving the pristine natural environment, raising expectations for the future designation as the world's largest island national garden.
