Geochang-gun Wins Top Award Two Years in a Row at Gyeongnam Volunteer Competition

Top Prize 1, Encouragement Prize 2, 3 Teams Achieve Awards

Geochang-gun, Gyeongnam Province, won the Grand Prize at the Gyeongsangnam-do Volunteer Competition for two consecutive years.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Geochang-gun, Gyeongnam Province, achieved remarkable results by winning three awards at the 2022 Gyeongsangnam-do Volunteer Competition: one grand prize and two encouragement prizes.

The Gyeongsangnam-do Volunteer Center holds an annual competition targeting volunteers, organizations, and companies to promote volunteer culture and activate volunteer participation among Gyeongsangnam-do residents.

This year’s competition was held under the themes “Volunteering is Actually Great” and “Volunteering! Finding My Bouquet.” Geochang-gun won the grand prize for the second consecutive year and had two teams selected for encouragement prizes.

The grand prize winner, “Masil-dan,” is a resident volunteer group recruited as part of the village activist discovery and development activities promoted by the Gajo Integrated Care Village Center to revitalize the local care community.

Masil-dan received high praise for its resident-led community mapping (making village maps) activity called “Finding Treasures in Our Neighborhood,” which rediscovers neglected cultural heritage in the area and transforms it into cultural content to realize the value of spreading and sharing local culture.

The encouragement prize winner, “Visiting Sharing Keeper,” is a village activist from the Gajo-myeon Integrated Care Village Center. This group was recognized as an excellent case for leading the creation of a livable village atmosphere by visiting shared refrigerators at each village senior center and educating residents to care for one another.

County Governor Goo In-mo said, “The excellent volunteer activities led by residents have become exemplary cases beyond our region to other cities and counties, raising the status of volunteer activities in Geochang-gun through this award.
