Countermeasures Committee "Reported for Audit Abuse by Board of Audit and Inspection"
Proposes Nationwide Resistance Movement Against Yoon's Oppression
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jun-yi] On the 3rd, the Democratic Party of Korea decided to file a complaint with the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (CIO) against the Board of Audit and Inspection (BAI) for notifying former President Moon Jae-in of a written investigation related to the 'West Sea Public Official Shooting Incident.'
The Democratic Party's Yoon Seok-yeol Regime Political Oppression Countermeasures Committee held a press conference at the National Assembly that morning, stating, "What the Yoon Seok-yeol government ultimately targets is former President Moon," and criticized, "Although it is called a specific audit, it is a comprehensive audit of all matters related to the Moon administration. The BAI is abusing its audit authority."
They added, "The BAI initiated 34 new specific audits in the second half of this year without even going through individual resolutions of the Audit Committee," and questioned, "What exactly is President Yoon aiming for?"
Furthermore, they pointed out, "Since the Yoon Seok-yeol government seized power wielding the prosecutor's blade, it seems they have no choice but to rely on the prosecutor's blade again," and "By directing that blade at the former president, they intend to plunge our society into a political conflict furnace."
The committee stated regarding the BAI's abuse of audit authority, "We will file a complaint with the CIO for abuse of power," and proposed "a nationwide resistance movement against the Yoon government's political oppression, including the BAI's abuse of audit authority."
After the press conference, Committee Chairman Park Beom-gye told reporters about plans related to the complaint against the BAI, "Please wait a little longer," and explained, "Many issues will be addressed during the National Assembly audit. We will conduct a more thorough review."
Regarding the nationwide resistance movement, he said, "We will hold an operations committee meeting to consult with the members. Once a conclusion is reached, we will convene the full committee."
They are also expected to accelerate efforts related to the amendment of the Board of Audit and Inspection Act, which the opposition party is promoting as party policy. Chairman Park said, "Although the Board of Audit and Inspection Act, previously introduced by Representative Shin Jeong-hoon, is meaningful, it lacks provisions on the initiation and scope of comprehensive and specific audits, targets, methods, and disciplinary procedures related to investigations under the Prosecutors' Office Act," adding, "We are studying it and will submit the amendment bill to the countermeasures committee tomorrow for joint discussion."
