[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Juri] A puppy abandoned in a garbage bag in Gangnam, Seoul was rescued, and the contacted owner reportedly said, "Put it to euthanasia."
Animal rights organization CARE announced on its official Instagram on the 1st, "At around 4 a.m. on September 30, we are reporting the person who abused and abandoned a 4-month-old puppy alive inside a roadside garbage bag in front of Hakdong-ro, Gangnam, Seoul, for animal cruelty."
The first witness heard a puppy’s scream somewhere on the way home from work and went to find it. The witness, who did not expect the puppy to be in the garbage area, approached the garbage bag following the sound. Then, saying "Where are you?" the witness found the puppy struggling at the very bottom of the bag, screaming.
CARE stated, "The 4-month-old puppy, weighing only 750g, was crumpled inside a blue garbage bag," adding, "The plastic was tightly tied so the puppy could not even breathe, and a pee pad was pressed down on the puppy to prevent it from coming out, which is an act of abuse leading to death."
At the time of rescue, the puppy was reported to have one swollen eye and was unable to stand. The puppy is currently hospitalized at an animal hospital cooperating with Gangnam District Office and receiving intravenous treatment.
CARE said, "The police have already identified a strong suspect through CCTV and receipts found inside the garbage bag," but added, "However, since the police seem to be investigating it as simple abandonment, CARE will file a complaint for abandonment and animal cruelty."
CARE plans to directly treat the puppy by donating and adopting it in the future.
In an additional notice, CARE said, "The culprit has been confirmed as the owner, and even after knowing the dog was found, reportedly told the police to 'put it to euthanasia.' CARE will request the police to focus the investigation on whether this person abused and abandoned the dog."
Meanwhile, the police reportedly identified the suspect through a woman’s cosmetic container and receipts found inside the garbage bag.
