Mayor Oh Se-hoon Emphasizes the Value and Expanding Role of Future Society Design
Held Three Preliminary Forums This Year to Enhance the Completion of the Main Forum for the First Time
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced that it will hold the '2022 Seoul Design International Forum' on the 5th, based on the vision of a 'sustainable design city where people, nature, and the city coexist.'
According to Seoul City on the 3rd, the Seoul Design International Forum will be held under the theme 'Design x Seoul: How Does Design Enrich the Future?' It will specifically explore how design is utilized as an engine to enhance the value of life and how citizens enjoy this value.
This year, to enhance professionalism, the Seoul Design International Forum was promoted through joint planning and operation involving the city, general planning MPs, division MPs, and expert consultations. Professor Kim Hyun-seok of Hongik University served as the general planning MP, jointly promoting the overall planning and operation of the international forum with the city. Professors Baek Joon-sang and Yoon Hye-kyung of Yonsei University participated in the forum’s think tank-level working group, contributing to the development of online platform content and participating in panel discussions within the forum. Additionally, Professor Lee Hyun-sung of Hongik University, who oversaw the third preliminary forum, Inami, CEO of Studio Baf, and Kim Gyu-ri, Seoul City’s Design Policy Officer, who participated as presenters, also took part in panel discussions to conduct in-depth discussions on future public design policies and roles.
Meanwhile, for the first time this year, the city held three preliminary forums to deepen and differentiate the content of the '2022 Seoul Design International Forum,' aiming to enhance the completeness of the main forum. Through these continuous forum events, Seoul Design International Forum strived to take another leap forward as a representative international public design policy forum by strengthening collaboration with domestic and international institutions.
The forum will begin with a congratulatory video from Mayor Oh Se-hoon, followed by presentations from seven domestic and international speakers across three sessions on the topic of ‘The Role of Design in Future Society and Value Creation.’ In the keynote session among the three sessions, Jeremy Yeo, Chief Experience Officer of Singapore Public Service, will present on ‘Designing the Essence of Spatial Experience at Jewel Changi Airport,’ discussing sustainable urban design through the case of Changi Airport. He will share key strategies and experiences regarding the meaning and contributions of design thinking.
The Seoul Design International Forum will be held online, and any citizens interested in design can access the international forum’s online platform to watch the event. After the event, the results will be posted on the online platform and published as a booklet, continuously sharing high-quality content for citizens to access.
Choi In-gyu, Design Policy Officer, said, “We hope this will be an opportunity to share excellent cases leading domestic and international changes to drive the city’s appeal through design and to discuss future policy directions, thereby newly exploring the expansion of design’s value and role.” He added, “Amid the flood of numerous online contents and events in the future, the Seoul Design International Forum will leap forward as a differentiated public discourse platform where human-centered design that can enrich our lives and the value of design driving Seoul’s urban competitiveness can be empirically examined.”
