[Asia Economy Reporter Jeon Jinyoung] As grocery prices rise, the mart industry is launching various discount events to ease the burden on consumers.
According to Lotte Mart on the 2nd, ahead of the kimchi-making season and considering the soaring price of napa cabbage, they are conducting pre-orders for salted napa cabbage until the 2nd of next month. The salted napa cabbages offered by Lotte Mart are two types: ‘Haenam Local Salted Napa Cabbage (20kg)’ and ‘Sanchi Ttukshim Yeongwol Salted Napa Cabbage (20kg),’ priced at 39,900 KRW and 45,900 KRW respectively. Each 20kg package contains 8 to 12 heads of cabbage, which is about half the current market price of napa cabbage. Lotte Mart has prepared 200 tons of napa cabbage for this event.
Emart is holding a ‘Fruit and Korean Pork Day’ event until the 3rd during the golden holiday, offering up to 50% discounts on fresh foods such as Shine Muscat grapes, persimmons, gold kiwis, apples, pork belly, and pork neck. Tasting events for seasonal fruits are also being held at up to 60 stores. All first-grade Korean pork products are sold with up to 40% discounts when purchased with event cards along with Shinsegae points accumulation. Earlier, Emart decided to freeze the prices of its private labels (PL), No Brand and Peacock, until the end of the year.
Homeplus is running a ‘Golden Week Price Stabilization Project’ for two consecutive weeks targeting the October holidays of Gaecheonjeol and Hangeul Day. For customers seeking health foods, until the 5th, ‘Australian Grain-fed Refrigerated Steamed Short Ribs (100g)’ are sold at a 40% discount for My Homeplus membership holders at 2,580 KRW, and all ‘Nonghyup Safe Korean Beef’ grilling products are offered at up to 40% discount prices.
The ‘Red King Crab’ is offered at 149,500 KRW per crab with a 100,000 KRW discount when paying with nine major credit cards over the weekend, along with free steaming service. Additionally, ‘Daecheon Gim Fresh Gopchang Dol Gim (80g)’ is sold to My Homeplus membership holders at a 40% discounted price of 6,540 KRW.
