Yoo So-yeon Only Korean Player in 'Top 10'... Titikun Tied for 2nd Place

Yoo So-yeon Only Korean Player in 'Top 10'... Titikun Tied for 2nd Place Yoo So-yeon


[Asia Economy Reporter Seohee Lee] Yoo So-yeon (32) is the only Korean player to enter the ‘Top 10’.


On the 30th (local time), Yoo So-yeon shot a 3-under-par 68 in the second round of the Ascendant LPGA Benefiting Volunteers of America (total prize money $1.7 million) held at Old American Golf Club (par 71, 6,475 yards) in The Colony, Texas, USA. With a total score of 5-under-par 137, she tied for 9th place along with Lexi Thompson (USA), Madelene Saxstr?m (Sweden), C?line Boutier (France), and Ariya Jutanugarn (Thailand). Charlie Hull (England) leads with 11-under-par 131.


Yoo So-yeon recorded five birdies and two bogeys. Starting with a bogey on the 10th hole (par 4), she reduced her score with birdies on the 12th, 15th, and 17th holes. Although she made a bogey on the 4th hole (par 4) in the back nine, she added consecutive birdies on the 6th and 7th holes. Yoo’s fairway hit rate dropped to 61.5% from 84.6% the previous day, but her driving distance (253 yards) and number of putts per round (29) stood out. Her greens in regulation also improved to 77.8%. She is six strokes behind the leader.


Yoo So-yeon debuted in 2012 and has won six times in total. Her last victory was at the 2018 Meijer LPGA Classic. In July this year, she contended for the title at the major Amundi Evian Championship but finished tied for 8th.


Hull collected eight birdies and one bogey. Rising star Atthaya Thitikul (Thailand), who won her second title of the season at the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship, shot an eagle, four birdies, and one double bogey to reduce her score by four strokes. She is tied for 2nd place (9-under-par 133) with Lin Xiyu (China), who led after the first round.


Jessica Korda (USA) is tied for 5th place (7-under-par 135), and Lydia Ko (New Zealand) is in 8th place (6-under-par 136).


Rookie An Na-rin (26) lowered her score by four strokes to tie for 15th place (4-under-par 138), and Kim A-rim (27) is tied for 18th place (3-under-par 139).
