[Asia Economy Reporter Ryu Tae-min] The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on the 29th that it is considering holding public forums and other events to gather opinions for finding a solution to the compensation issue for forced labor victims.
At the regular briefing on the same day, Deputy Spokesperson Lim said in response to a question about 'public forums to gather opinions on the forced labor solution,' “So far, the public-private consultative council has been held four times,” adding, “We plan to hold expanded-scale events with broader participation to collect a wide range of opinions going forward.”
Deputy Spokesperson Lim continued, “Regarding the format, there could be public forums or various other alternatives, and the specific format or method is currently under review,” emphasizing, “We will continue diplomatic efforts both domestically and internationally to adopt the most reasonable measures that align with the mutual interests of both countries.”
The government had previously stated that after holding a total of four public-private consultative councils by early this month, it would proceed with an opinion-gathering process with a broader scope than the existing consultative councils.
