[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Song Jong-gu] On the 28th, Changwon Facilities Corporation in Gyeongnam held the first meeting of the 'Public-Private Joint TF' at Gamgye Welfare Center regarding the occurrence of larvae in the swimming pool.
The Public-Private Joint TF is composed of a total of 13 members, including Acting Director Jeong Cheol-young as the team leader, city council members from Buk-myeon area, water quality management experts, health and medical experts, representatives of civic groups and local residents, and related public officials.
At the meeting, the joint epidemiological investigation results by Nakdong River Environmental Office and Korea Water Resources Corporation were shared, confirming that there were no abnormalities in the production and supply system of Daesan Water Purification Plant, which supplies water to the swimming pool.
Accordingly, the Public-Private Joint TF decided to conduct internal inspections on the cause of larvae occurrence in the swimming pool, observe the environmental improvement work of the swimming pool facilities, and prepare measures to prevent recurrence of larvae occurrence.
The committee members ordered to advance the replacement cycle of activated carbon in the swimming pool filters, thoroughly disinfect stagnant water in the collection well, and strictly manage the water tank entrances.
They also advised installing light traps outdoors at the center to prevent the inflow of midges.
In particular, it was decided to alleviate citizens' anxiety and curiosity through transparent information provision about the TF activities.
Meanwhile, before the meeting, the TF members visited the mechanical room on the basement first floor to observe the removal of filter media such as activated carbon, sand, and gravel from the filters.
TF Team Leader Jeong Cheol-young said, “We will do our best to establish recurrence prevention measures through transparent and efficient Public-Private Joint TF activities and restore citizens' trust in the swimming pool water.”
