[Asia Economy Culture Young Intern Reporter] A man in his 40s who broke the windows of taxis parked in apartment complexes and villas during late-night hours and stole cash was caught by the police.
The Gyeonggi Paju Police Station announced on the 28th that they have booked a man in his 40s, Mr. A, on charges of nighttime burglary.
Mr. A is accused of stealing approximately 3.2 million KRW in cash over 12 incidents during the month of September, targeting only taxis parked in apartment complexes and villas in Munsan-eup, Paju City.
Mr. A knew that taxi drivers kept the money they earned from their business inside the vehicles and targeted taxis that had finished their late-night operations.
During the crimes, Mr. A used a metal pipe and stones to break the taxi windows.
The police tracked Mr. A’s movements by analyzing vehicle black boxes and closed-circuit television (CCTV), and arrested him in the act at an apartment parking lot in Paju City in the early morning of the 26th.
Mr. A, who has no steady job, was found to have used the stolen money for living expenses.
The police have applied for an arrest warrant for Mr. A and are conducting further investigations.
