[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Juri] A man in his 60s who installed a miniature camera in the bathroom to illegally film his stepdaughters has been sentenced to prison.

The Criminal Division 1 of Gongju Branch, Daejeon District Court (Presiding Judge Kim Maekyung) sentenced Mr. A, who was detained and indicted on charges including violation of the Special Act on the Punishment of Sexual Crimes, to 3 years and 6 months in prison on the 28th, and ordered him to complete 80 hours of a sexual violence treatment program.

Mr. A installed a miniature camera in the toothbrush holder in the bathroom of his home and illegally filmed the bodies of his daughters in their 20s. He was tried on charges of storing hundreds of photos and video files taken this way on his mobile phone and laptop.

From 2017 to 2018, he was also charged with forcibly molesting the sisters by entering their rooms and touching their bodies while they were asleep.

Mr. A’s criminal acts were uncovered by his youngest daughter, who happened to see the photos on Mr. A’s mobile phone album.

The court stated the sentencing reasons, saying, "The defendant took advantage of the fact that his stepdaughters, who are relatives, could not resist, forcibly molested them, and repeatedly filmed them naked, causing great pain to the victims due to the defendant’s crimes. Although he admits his guilt and shows remorse, considering that the victims want severe punishment, we have taken these factors into account."
