Suspected of multiple stabbings with a weapon
Six warnings issued to 'Stalking Offender' target
[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kim Gun-chan] A man in his 30s who stabbed a high school classmate he was stalking with a weapon, causing serious injuries, was caught by the police at the scene.
On the 27th, Daegu Gangbuk Police Station arrested Mr. A (30) on the spot near Gukwoo Tunnel in Buk-gu on charges of attempted murder for stabbing a female high school classmate in her 30s multiple times with a weapon.
According to the police, Mr. A chased the victim, who left her house that morning, and stabbed her with a weapon, causing serious injuries. The victim was transported to the hospital and is reported to be undergoing surgery.
Earlier, on the 25th, Mr. A had directly called or visited the victim's family and threatened to "set the house on fire," causing harm.
At that time, the police issued six warnings to Mr. A via phone, in writing, and face-to-face as a 'date violence and stalking offender.' They also conducted patrols and protective measures around the victim's house for about an hour.
The police applied stalking crime charges to Mr. A and intended to provide the victim with a smartwatch and other protective devices, but it was not realized according to the victim's wishes. Under current law, stalking is a crime that cannot be punished if the victim expresses a desire not to prosecute.
The police plan to apply for an arrest warrant after further investigation into the stalking crime.
