'Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province Support Committee Establishment Amendment' Passed in National Assembly Plenary Session

Establishment Basis for the "Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province Support Committee" under the Prime Minister

National Assembly Votes on the "Amendment Bill to Establish the Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province Support Committee" [Gangwon Province]

[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] Gangwon Province announced on the 27th that "the revised bill for the 'Establishment of the Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province Support Committee under the Prime Minister' was approved at the plenary session of the National Assembly."

With the completion of the partial amendment to the "Special Act on the Establishment of Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province," which began in July, Gangwon Province will form a government-level support organization to assist the special self-governing province.

The 'Support Committee' plans to support and review the mid- to long-term development plans and special measures for Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province, similar to the cases of the Jeju and Sejong Support Committees.

The revised bill was initiated by National Assembly members Heo Young and Noh Yong-ho on June 23, passed the National Assembly's Administrative Safety Committee on September 22, the Legislation and Judiciary Committee on September 26, and finally passed the plenary session on the same day.

Previously, Kim Jin-tae, Governor of Gangwon Province, personally visited the National Assembly's Administrative Safety Committee and Legislation and Judiciary Committee to ensure the passage of the revised bill. Additionally, Kim Myung-sun, Vice Governor, and Kim Han-soo, Director of Planning and Coordination Office, secured cooperation from the Administrative Safety Committee and Legislation and Judiciary Committee professional staff offices, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, and the Office for Government Policy Coordination.

Governor Kim Jin-tae said, "I am grateful to the residents, the Gangwon Province Residents Association, the Provincial Council, local National Assembly members, and government officials who gave great support for the passage of the revised bill," and added, "We will devote all our efforts to the successful launch of Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province, including follow-up measures for the formation and operation of the Support Committee."
