Police Summon 11 Including Cargo Solidarity Branch Chief Over 'Hite Jinro Headquarters Occupation'

Police Investigate 48 Union Members

[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Sehee] The police have summoned 11 people, including executives of the Cargo Solidarity Union of the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions Public Transport Workers' Union, who occupied the headquarters of Hite Jinro.

On the 27th, the Gangnam Police Station in Seoul announced that they summoned 11 people, including Park Su-dong, the head of the Cargo Solidarity Hite Jinro branch, as suspects and are investigating them.

They are accused of occupying the Hite Jinro headquarters and staging a sit-in protest from the 16th of last month until the 9th of this month, demanding the reinstatement of dismissed workers to their original positions and the realization of transportation fees.

They face charges including obstruction of business, special trespassing and refusal to leave, attempted arson of a building, and violations of the Assembly and Demonstration Act.

The police received a complaint from Hite Jinro management on the 17th of last month while investigating the union members' illegal occupation, and are conducting a combined investigation of the two cases. Although Hite Jinro management withdrew civil and criminal complaints against union members, the police continue to investigate 48 people who participated in the occupation protest separately.
