[Seoul District News] Seongbuk-gu to Issue Seongbuk Sarang Gift Certificates Worth 11 Billion KRW on September 30 at 10 AM & Third Issuance Planned with Additional 22 Billion KRW Supplementary Budget Secured in Early September ... Eunpyeong-gu to Fully Launch Galhyeon Elementary School Complex Project & Install Parking Lot and Multipurpose Gymnasium
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Seongbuk-gu (Mayor Lee Seung-ro) will once again support local small business owners and consumers by selling an additional 11 billion KRW worth of Seongbuk Love Gift Certificates on the 30th.
The Seongbuk Love Gift Certificates were first issued on January 24 with 18 billion KRW, followed by a second issuance of 10 billion KRW on September 1, which revitalized the local economy ahead of the Chuseok holiday.
During the second issuance on September 1, 10 billion KRW worth of certificates sold out within about 10 minutes, showing increased demand amid the recent high inflation. Accordingly, the district secured an additional supplementary budget of 22 billion KRW in early September and is promoting a third issuance, selling gift certificates worth 11 billion KRW starting at 10 a.m. on the 30th.
Consumers can purchase the gift certificates at a 10% discount off the face value, up to a maximum of 700,000 KRW per person. However, since the purchase limit is 700,000 KRW per month, consumers who bought certificates during the second issuance on September 1 can only purchase the remaining balance within the 700,000 KRW limit.
The Seongbuk Love Gift Certificates can be purchased by anyone regardless of their residence area. They can be easily purchased by installing any of the five payment apps: ▲Seoul Pay+ ▲Money Tree ▲T-money Pay ▲Shinhan SOL, among others. The holding limit is 2 million KRW, and the certificates can be used at affiliated stores within Seongbuk-gu.
Mayor Lee Seung-ro said, “In the face of rapidly rising prices, we have adjusted the schedule for the third issuance to give more people the opportunity to purchase the gift certificates. We plan to issue one more round in the future to promote consumption, which has been depressed due to COVID-19 and high inflation, and to help recover the local commercial district and ease the burden of consumer prices.”
Eunpyeong-gu (Mayor Kim Mi-kyung) announced on the 26th that it signed a basic agreement with the Western Education Support Office to build a complex facility at Galhyeon Elementary School.
The ‘Galhyeon Elementary School Complex Project’ involves constructing a public parking lot and a multipurpose sports facility within the school premises. The total budget is approximately 22 billion KRW, with 19.5 billion KRW from national, city, and district funds, and 2.5 billion KRW from the Western Education Support Office.
The agreement ceremony was attended by Kim Mi-kyung, Mayor of Eunpyeong-gu, and Lee Yang-soon, Director of the Western Education Support Office. Through the agreement, the district and the education office pledged to mutually cooperate by sharing human and material resources to promote the construction of the Galhyeon Elementary School complex.
Through the complex project, 150 public parking spaces will be created on the first and second basement floors of Galhyeon Elementary School to alleviate parking difficulties in the Yeonsinnae area, and a multipurpose sports facility for local residents will be installed on the ground floor.
The complex project will proceed alongside the reconstruction of the aging Galhyeon Elementary School. After the urban planning facility decision (change) this year, administrative procedures such as public architecture review will be completed. Design work will begin in August next year, with construction targeted to start in 2025.
Previously, since 2019, the district and the education support office have conducted parent surveys and education office reconstruction reviews to build the Galhyeon Elementary School reconstruction and complex facility. Although it was not easy to agree on changes to the school reconstruction plan and the terms of the agreement, they have now reached a final consensus on the key issues and signed the agreement.
Kim Mi-kyung, Mayor of Eunpyeong-gu, said, “Along with improving the convenience of local residents, we expect it will also help revitalize the commercial district after the GTX-A line opens in 2024. We will work hard to complete the remaining administrative procedures for smooth project progress.”
