Gwangju Buk-gu 'Usan Neighborhood Park' Transformed into a Complex Sports and Cultural Space Perspective view of Usan Life Sports Center.

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yukbong] The area around Usan Neighborhood Park in Buk-gu is being transformed into a multi-purpose healing space for health and leisure activities.

Buk-gu, Gwangju announced on the 27th that it will hold the opening ceremony of the ‘Buk-gu Usan Community Sports Center’ at 2 p.m. on the 30th, with about 200 attendees including the Mayor of Gwangju Metropolitan City, members of the National Assembly, city and district councilors, sports officials, and residents.

As part of the Living SOC complex project, the ‘Usan Community Sports Center’ was developed within Usan Neighborhood Park with a total project cost of 10.2 billion KRW, covering a total floor area of 3,295㎡ and consisting of two underground floors.

In particular, the underground space was utilized three-dimensionally to preserve the green space and walking paths above ground, and a residential parking lot was also constructed to alleviate nearby parking difficulties.

The first basement floor houses two leisure program rooms for residents, an operations office, a caf?, and a lounge hall, while the second basement floor includes a multi-purpose gymnasium, shower rooms, and a parking lot with 62 spaces. The center will officially open for operation starting from the 4th of next month.

As a result, Usan Neighborhood Park, which is frequently visited by residents, will be reborn as a multi-purpose complex cultural and sports space that creates synergy with existing facilities such as the Usan Community Sports Center, nearby Mudeung Library, Usan Swimming Pool, outdoor sports areas, and walking trails.

Director Moon said, “I hope the opening of the Usan Community Sports Center will be a step forward for the dignified life of Buk-gu residents,” adding, “We will continue to expand living cultural infrastructure where residents can enjoy both health and leisure simultaneously within their living area’s 10 streets.”

Meanwhile, since the beginning of this year, Buk-gu has seen the sequential opening and official operation of large-scale Living SOC projects initiated during the 7th local government term, including ‘Jungheung Library,’ ‘Shinyong Administrative Complex Town,’ the nation’s first ‘Bandabi Sports Center,’ and ‘Buk-gu Comprehensive Sports Center.’
