Yeosu~Geomun Route, General Passenger Ferry 'Half-Price Fare' Expanded Year-Round

Year-Round Half-Price Support Regardless of Weekends, Holidays, or Peak Season... Including Intermediate Ports (Chodo, Sonjukdo)

[Yeosu=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Cheol-hoon] Jeonnam Yeosu City (Mayor Jeong Gi-myeong) announced that from September 27, it will support 50% of the passenger fare year-round for the general public (residents of other regions) using the Yeosu~Geomun route.

The city had originally supported half-price fares only on weekdays, but after continuously requesting Jeollanam-do, the related guidelines were changed to provide support year-round regardless of weekends, holidays, or the special transportation period during the summer peak season.

In particular, passenger fares for intermediate ports of call, Chodo and Sonjukdo, which had not been supported until now, will also receive half-price support.

Of the 50% passenger fare support, Jeollanam-do and Yeosu City will each support 25%, and the support may end early if the project funds are exhausted.

The city, in consultation with Jeollanam-do, decided to share the burden of the shipping company’s portion (10%) of the support amount to ease the burden on the shipping companies suffering from management difficulties due to the decrease in ferry passengers.

Accordingly, from September 27, residents of regions other than Yeosu using the Yeosu~Geomun route will only need to pay 18,050 won out of the 36,100 won fare.

A city official said, “We expect that this year-round half-price fare support will increase the number of tourists visiting Geomundo. We will continue to make efforts to improve the conditions for using the passenger ferry, which is the only maritime transportation for island residents.”
