[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] Gimhae City, Gyeongnam Province, will begin the full-scale purchase of public stockpiled rice starting October 13.
According to the established 2022 public stockpiled rice purchase plan, the city plans to buy 3,871 tons of ‘Yeonghojinmi’ and ‘Hyeonpum rice,’ which is 670 tons more than the previous year.
Among the public stockpiled rice, un-dried paddy rice after harvest will be purchased at Gimhae RPC (Rice Processing Complex), Hallim DSC (Rice Drying Facility), and Jinrye DSC, while dried rice will be purchased from early November at designated dates and locations by eup, myeon, and dong.
The city announced that under the variety inspection system, rice varieties not included in the purchase list will be excluded from public stockpiled rice purchases for five years if shipped.
To prevent any disadvantages to farmers, the city urged careful management of purchase varieties and reminded farmers shipping bagged rice to strictly comply with the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs’ announced standard packaging, drying status, and weight requirements.
According to the city, the purchase price for public stockpiled rice is determined based on the nationwide average rice price at production sites from October to December, the harvest season.
The city will pay an interim settlement of 30,000 KRW per bag immediately after purchase and will pay the difference after the purchase price is finalized at the end of this year.
A city official said, “As this year has been a difficult time for rice farmers due to the continued decline in rice prices, we will ensure the full purchase of all allocated public stockpiled rice quantities without fail.”
