Test Operation Until August Next Year
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] GS Retail announced on the 27th that starting from the 28th, it will introduce gold vending machines at five locations of GS25 and GS The Fresh. After a test operation until August next year, the company plans to decide on further expansion.
The gold vending machines can sell a total of five types of gold products with various weights ranging from 1.875g to 75g. It is a third-generation model with transaction condition settings that change daily reflecting the international gold price, also carrying the campaign message encouraging everyone to own 30g of gold.
Until now, convenience stores faced limitations in handling high-priced products due to inventory burden and theft risks, but through the gold vending machines, the product range has expanded safely to include not only gold bars but also commemorative coins and various other precious metal items.
GS Retail believes that expanding gold vending machines to about 100 stores in the future will greatly improve consumer accessibility, and since credit cards and various payment methods can be used, it will also provide convenience in payment options.
A GS Retail official said, “Selling high-priced precious metals at convenience stores involved burdens in inventory and theft management, so sales were only made through brochure orders. The introduction of these gold vending machines solves these constraints at once and significantly expands the range of products handled.”
