[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Jung-yoon] As of 9 PM on the 26th, the number of new COVID-19 cases nationwide reached the 30,000 range.


According to Seoul and other local governments, from midnight to 9 PM on this day, 37,254 people across 17 cities and provinces nationwide were confirmed positive for COVID-19. This is an increase of 23,575 cases compared to the 13,679 cases recorded at the same time the previous day, making it 2.72 times higher.


However, overall, a downward trend in new confirmed cases is observed. Compared to one week ago on the 19th, when there were 45,974 cases, it decreased by 8,720 cases, and compared to two weeks ago on the 12th, when there were 54,731 cases, it decreased by 17,477 cases. Based on the Monday mid-day tally, this is the lowest number in 11 weeks since July 11, when 35,805 cases were recorded.


The mid-day tally on this day showed 22,322 cases (59.92%) in the metropolitan area and 14,932 cases (40.08%) in non-metropolitan areas. By region, the numbers were: Gyeonggi 11,286, Seoul 8,558, Incheon 2,478, Gyeongnam 2,214, Gyeongbuk 1,638, Daegu 1,414, Chungnam 1,207, Gangwon 1,167, Chungbuk 1,155, Busan 1,152, Daejeon 1,132, Jeonnam 1,119, Jeonbuk 1,112, Gwangju 820, Ulsan 565, Jeju 181, and Sejong 56.


From the 20th of this month for one week, the daily new confirmed cases were 47,897 → 41,269 → 33,005 → 29,108 → 29,353 → 25,792 → 14,168, averaging 31,513 cases per day.
