[Asia Economy Reporter Jeon Jinyoung] Super Typhoon ‘Noru’ struck the Philippines, causing flooding in various areas and resulting in the deaths of six people, including rescue workers.
According to foreign media on the 26th, Noru, the strongest typhoon to occur this year, made landfall at 5:30 PM the previous day in the municipality of Burdeos on Polillo Island, Quezon Province, located 60 km east of the capital Manila.
Strong winds and heavy rain caused utility poles to fall, cutting off electricity in several places and flooding homes.
The death toll has reached six so far, including five rescue workers who were dispatched to the scene. Daniel Fernando, governor of Bulacan Province, said, "Five rescue workers using boats to help residents trapped by the flood appear to have drowned after hitting a collapsed wall and being swept away by the rising water."
In the municipality of Burdeos, one elderly person died due to a landslide. Numerous flights and ferry services were also canceled. Flood damage occurred in various areas near Manila, the metropolitan area, and the stock exchange was closed.
President Ferdinand Marcos ordered the airlifting of recovery equipment to the affected areas and the provision of emergency power to blackout zones.
