[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] Busan Port Authority (BPA) received the Innovation Value Award in the E (Environment) category at the '1st Korea ESG Innovation Policy Awards' hosted by the Korean Association for Policy Studies, held at the Government Sejong Convention Center on the 23rd.
The 'Korea ESG Innovation Policy Awards' is an award newly established this year by the Korean Association for Policy Studies to discover, share, and spread excellent ESG policy cases.
The selection criteria include ▲establishment of creative ESG innovation policy plans ▲efforts in execution and promotion ▲achievement creation and feedback, and public institutions and local governments demonstrating excellence in ESG policies are selected.
BPA declared ESG management as the first public port enterprise, established ESG, safety, innovation, and customer management policies, and has taken the lead in realizing ESG in the port sector by newly establishing an ESG division in the Port Committee subcommittee.
At the 1st ESG Innovation Policy Awards, BPA was recognized for its contribution to creating quality jobs in the region and reducing carbon emissions within the port through its representative ESG project, the 'Busan Port Port Handling Equipment Localization Project.'
The Busan Port Port Handling Equipment Localization Project is a key BPA project that creates an ecosystem to introduce domestically produced handling equipment based on local manufacturing technology, implementing the introduction of localized handling equipment at new piers and converting old handling equipment at existing piers to eco-friendly power.
Currently, the handling equipment market is dominated by foreign-made handling equipment.
As a result of the project, a domestically produced container crane was recently brought into and is undergoing installation and test operation at the West Container Terminal of Busan New Port for the first time in 12 years.
Kang Jun-seok, President of BPA, said, "We will take the lead in ESG management for the people by supporting ESG realization not only for BPA but also for the handling equipment supply chain and the entire regional industrial ecosystem."
