[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] The Special Judicial Police of Incheon City will conduct a special inspection of waste disposal companies around the Sudogwon Landfill Site in Seo-gu from the 27th to the 30th.
The city prepared the inspection plan after concerns were raised about illegal activities by nearby companies due to an increased amount of waste being brought into the Sudogwon Landfill Site following record-breaking heavy rains and flooding in the metropolitan area.
The city plans to pre-select companies suspected of unauthorized operations or illegal activities for focused crackdowns, and to ensure that those caught face strict punishment through investigations.
Unauthorized waste disposal companies are subject to imprisonment of up to 5 years or fines of up to 50 million won under the Waste Management Act.
In May last year, Incheon City's Special Judicial Police conducted a special inspection of 20 waste disposal companies in Seo-gu, uncovering three companies that operated waste intermediate recycling businesses without waste disposal permits or transported and stored approximately 1,000 tons of construction waste at demolition sites without construction waste collection and transportation permits.
