Decision Made After Deliberation by Pledge Evaluation Team with Direct Citizen Participation
County Governor Oh, "I Will Place the Scale of Challenge and the Scale of Dignity Together"
Otaewan Oh, the governor of Uiryeong-gun, Gyeongnam, and the Public Pledge Evaluation Group held a meeting and finalized 54 major pledges.
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Wook] Uiryeong-gun, Gyeongnam, completed the review of the 8th term public pledge projects on the 23rd and recently finalized the pledge projects for "The Beginning of Change, A Better Uiryeong" through advisory from the citizen pledge evaluation group and public opinion collection.
According to the county, 54 projects in 4 major areas were selected for the 8th term public pledge projects, with a total of over 600 billion KRW planned to be invested annually, including 238.4 billion KRW from the national government, 92.7 billion KRW from the provincial government, and 271.7 billion KRW from the county budget.
The four major areas of the pledge projects are ▲ Leading Smart City (11 projects) ▲ Premium City where Culture and Tourism Blossom (15 projects) ▲ Hub of Education and Training, Specialized City for Firefighting and Safety (15 projects) ▲ Dream City Uiryeong where Everyone is Happy (13 projects).
The 8th term pledges of Uiryeong-gun focus on aggressive challenges preparing for the new 50-year future of Uiryeong, cultural projects preserving Uiryeong’s dignity, and customized welfare support for citizens. The county places great significance on the fact that these tasks were finalized through democratic procedures after deliberation by the citizen pledge evaluation group, which involves direct citizen participation.
The first election pledge of County Governor Oh Tae-wan, "Extension of the National Road Network North-South 6 Axis Route," was named as a key pledge. Governor Oh stated, "We will open the era of the Uiryeong-eup highway," and plans to revise the national road network plan to extend the Jincheon-Hapcheon highway passing through Uiryeong-eup to Goseong.
The healing of victims of the Gungnyu shooting incident, a 40-year-old grievance of Uiryeong and a national tragedy, will also be actively pursued. Until now, the construction of a memorial monument had been stalled for various reasons, including causing the bereaved families to recall the incident from 40 years ago.
However, momentum accelerated after Governor Oh secured confirmation of special grant support through a meeting with Prime Minister Kim Boo-kyum in December last year.
The county plans to announce the compensation plan for the memorial park site within this year, hold a design contest for the memorial monument, and begin construction in the second half of next year.
Citizen welfare projects were also largely included in the pledge projects. The construction of a county happiness park and a public crematorium is being promoted, and a safety system using the Internet of Things will be established in all senior centers.
Experience play facilities for children and expansion of sports facilities in Namsan Park and Sinban Park will be implemented.
In addition, the pledges consist of a harmonious mix of continuity from the 7th term policies and new projects for the 8th term, including attracting the National Korean Language Dictionary Museum, building the 2nd exhibition hall of the Uibyeong Museum, upgrading the local fire academy, establishing three park golf courses, and creating a youth residence platform.
The finalized pledge projects will be disclosed to citizens through the Uiryeong-gun website on the 23rd, and the pledge items will be revised and supplemented through quarterly pledge implementation evaluations.
Governor Oh Tae-wan said, "On the scale of the 8th term, we want to place both the 'weight of challenge' for a new Uiryeong and the 'weight of dignity' that raises citizens' pride," adding, "We will create a 'premium Uiryeong' with balance and without bias, ensuring no policy area is lacking."
