[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Dong-hyun] The number of new COVID-19 cases fell below 30,000 for two consecutive days.


The Central Disease Control Headquarters announced on the 24th at midnight that 29,353 new COVID-19 cases were confirmed, bringing the cumulative total to 24,594,336.


Although the number of new cases increased by 245 from the previous day (29,108), it remained below 30,000 for the second consecutive day. One week ago on the 17th, there were 43,442 cases, and two weeks ago on the 10th, there were 42,696 cases. This is the lowest Saturday figure in 11 weeks since July 9 (20,261 cases).


From the 18th to today, the daily new cases over one week were 34,743 → 19,389 → 47,897 → 41,269 → 33,005 → 29,108 → 29,353, averaging about 33,537 cases per day.


Among the new cases today, 306 were imported cases, an increase of 3 from the previous day (303). Excluding imported cases, domestic infections numbered 29,047.


By region, the numbers were as follows: Gyeonggi 8,135, Seoul 5,651, Gyeongnam 1,768, Incheon 1,785, Gyeongbuk 1,648, Daegu 1,592, Chungnam 1,270, Busan 1,259, Chungbuk 981, Jeonbuk 950, Jeonnam 890, Gangwon 870, Daejeon 815, Gwangju 746, Ulsan 462, Jeju 267, Sejong 231, Quarantine 33, in that order.


As of midnight today, the number of critically ill patients was 418, an increase of 19 from the previous day (399).


The number of deaths due to COVID-19 yesterday was 63, five fewer than the previous day (68). Among the new deaths, 47 (74.6%) were aged 80 and above, 10 were in their 70s, 2 in their 60s, 1 in their 50s, 2 in their 40s, and 1 in their 30s. The cumulative death toll to date is 28,140, with a cumulative fatality rate of 0.11%.


As of 5 p.m. the previous day, the bed occupancy rate was 23.4% for critically ill beds (432 used out of 1,846), a decrease of 0.7 percentage points from the previous day. The occupancy rate for semi-critical beds was 28.0%, and for moderate beds, 15.6%.


As of midnight today, the number of patients receiving home treatment was 199,230, a decrease of 6,382 from the previous day (205,612). This decrease is understood to be due to the declining trend of the COVID-19 outbreak.
