[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] South Korea's largest game show, 'G-STAR 2022,' will be held normally for the first time in three years since the outbreak of COVID-19. The event is raising expectations as it features star developers from both domestic and international scenes, as well as key anticipated titles from various game companies.
According to the game industry on the 24th, the G-STAR Organizing Committee announced the list of speakers for the core event of G-STAR, the 'G-CON X IGC 2022' conference.
The conference, held over two days from November 17 to 18, will host several star developers from home and abroad. In the domestic game industry, Jang Hyun-guk, CEO of Wemade, the main sponsor of this year's G-STAR, will deliver the opening keynote speech. Also, Jin Seung-ho, director of Line Games who developed titles such as 'Black Room,' 'Gray City,' and 'Buried Stars,' and Noh Chang-gyu, art director at Neowiz currently developing 'The Lie of P,' will participate as speakers.
From Japan, Ryozo Tsujimoto of Capcom, the father of the 'Monster Hunter' series; Keiichiro Toyama of Bokeh Game Studio, known for the 'Silent Hill' and 'Gravity Rush' series; and Hiroshi Matsuyama, CEO of CyberConnect2, who has developed distinctive games based on Japanese animation intellectual properties (IPs) such as 'Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba ? The Hinokami Chronicles,' are also preparing lectures.
From the Western side, David Cage, CEO of Quantic Dream, developer of 'Detroit: Become Human,' and Steve Papoutsis, Chief Development Officer of Striking Distance Studios under Krafton, who is working on the upcoming horror action game 'The Callisto Protocol' scheduled for release at the end of the year, will share their game development experiences with the audience.
Hosted by the Korea Game Industry Association and sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, G-STAR will be held for four days from November 17 to 20 at BEXCO in Busan.
At G-STAR, participants including the main sponsor Wemade, Neowiz, Nexon Korea, Netmarble, Redbrick, Sandbox Network, Irugo World, Inven, Kakao Games, Krafton, and HoYoverse will introduce new games.
Neowiz is expected to showcase 'The Lie of P,' which won three awards at 'Gamescom 2022' held in Germany last August, marking the first time a Korean game company achieved this feat, drawing attention from domestic audiences.
The G-STAR Organizing Committee stated, "Although the conference could not be held normally due to the COVID-19 situation over the past two years, we have prepared this year's conference with our best efforts to relieve the regrets with the largest scale and highest level of lectures ever."
