[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Dongdaemun-gu (Mayor Lee Pil-hyung) announced that on the 23rd at 5 p.m., the nonprofit corporation DDM Fashion Sewing Federation (President Jang Byeong-chae) held an opening ceremony for its office (177 Hwangmul-ro, 2nd floor).
Over 210 fashion sewing companies in the area established the nonprofit corporation DDM Fashion Sewing Federation last March to promote the sound development and competitiveness of the fashion sewing industry, and opened the office on the 23rd.
About 40 people attended the opening ceremony, including Lee Pil-hyung, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, Lee Tae-in, Chairman of Dongdaemun-gu Council, and Jang Byeong-chae, President of the nonprofit DDM Fashion Sewing Industry Federation.
With the opening of this office, projects undertaken by the nonprofit DDM Fashion Sewing Federation such as job creation education projects, smart factory and collaboration projects, dissemination of new technologies in the fashion sewing industry, and establishment of productivity innovation facilities are expected to gain momentum.
Lee Pil-hyung, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, said, “For the revitalization of the local economy, the fashion sewing industry, which accounts for about 60% of the district’s manufacturing sector and is a representative industry, must develop,” adding, “We will do our best with the DDM Fashion Sewing Federation to establish an advanced industrial foundation including the dissemination of new technologies so that the sewing industry can secure competitiveness.”
Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon-gu, attended the 26th Senior Citizens Day commemorative ceremony held at Nowon Citizens Hall at 11 a.m. on the 23rd.
In preparation for the upcoming Senior Citizens Day (October 2), the district held the event to express respect and gratitude to seniors who have been exemplary in the community and to commend those who have contributed to the improvement of senior welfare.
A special performance by Kim Deok-su’s Samulnori troupe was held as a pre-ceremony event. The auditorium was filled with the joyful sounds of traditional Korean music and the applause and cheers of the seniors.
The event proceeded with the reading of the senior citizens’ pledge by a representative of the senior association, introduction of guests, and congratulatory speeches, followed by awarding certificates of commendation to 36 exemplary seniors and contributors to welfare, and the appointment of local volunteer leaders.
Notably, Mayor Oh received a plaque of appreciation from the President of the Nowon-gu branch of the Korean Senior Citizens Association in recognition of his contributions to enhancing senior welfare.
Outside the venue, side events were held by related organizations such as the ‘Nowon Senior Club’ and ‘Nowon Job Support Center.’ At the ‘Visiting Mobile Health Bus’ booth, simple health check-ups and consultations, including blood pressure measurement for seniors, were conducted.
Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon-gu, said, “We prepared this commemorative ceremony with respect and gratitude for our seniors,” adding, “We will accelerate the creation of a senior-friendly city so that about 60,000 seniors living in the district can live more vibrantly and happily.”
Park Kang-su, Mayor of Mapo-gu, held a meeting with school principals on the 23rd to explain the district’s education support policies and discuss cooperation plans for educational development.
The meeting was attended by the Mayor of Mapo-gu, the Superintendent of the Western Education Support Office, 22 elementary school principals from Mapo-gu, and related officials.
In his greeting, Park Kang-su said, “I hope that the government and academia will cooperate with one heart and mind so that our children can grow progressively without falling behind amid rapid social changes.”
Seocho-gu (Mayor Jeon Seong-su) is holding the ‘Sharing and Healing Seoripul Music Concert and Bazaar’ over two days from the 23rd to the 24th at Seocho-gu Office Plaza and a special stage (outdoor parking lot).
This event was organized to comfort residents affected by the record-breaking heavy rain last month and to convey healing and hope through music.
The ‘Sharing Seoripul Bazaar’ is held in front of the district office from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. It operates about 60 booths, with participation from about 20 local companies and 30 institutions including welfare centers, selling representative products of companies at affordable prices. The proceeds will be donated to flood victims.
In particular, the bazaar offers high-quality products from famous brands at prices lower than market value, allowing residents visiting the bazaar to gain both great deals and opportunities to donate.
Representative company products include ▲Ildong Pharmaceutical protein bars and nutritional snacks, pet food and supplies ▲Dongwon F&B instant foods, noodles, beverages ▲Daesang F&B basil and truffle pesto sauces, jams ▲Sajo Oyang fish sausage ▲Emart cushions, pajamas, daily necessities ▲Lotte Mart ramen, tissue, Pok?mon bread ▲Kim’s Club sink water stoppers, silicone oil guards ▲Nam Seoul Nonghyup agricultural and marine products ▲SGC Solution Glasslock containers ▲Damkkot traditional tea ▲Toytron toys and playthings ▲Yangjae-dong Maljukgeori alley-style rice cakes, fruits, and vegetables.
Meanwhile, the ‘Healing Seoripul Music Concert’ held from 7 p.m. on the 23rd and 24th will feature top artists such as SG Wannabe, Forestella, and Song So-hee, captivating about 4,000 spectators.
Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yoo Seong-hoon) held a neighborhood festival on Byeoljanggil in Siheung 5-dong from 2 p.m. on the 23rd.
The festival featured various programs including Byeoljanggil retro games and a Byeoljanggil history quiz, culminating in the highlight events of the clock tower unveiling ceremony and street lighting ceremony.
Byeoljanggil, selected as a Seoul city alleyway regeneration project site in 2020, is undergoing transformation under the name ‘Beautiful Byeoljanggil Street’ and is a meaningful place for local residents where old stories are hidden throughout the alley.
Yoo Seong-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, said, “I thank the Byeoljanggil residents’ council and merchants who prepared and participated in the festival,” adding, “We will continue to strive to revitalize the alley market.”
