Moderate Intellectuals Gather to Launch 'Gongsangsa'... Monitoring Government Media Policy
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] "The Park Geun-hye administration tried to control the media by creating a blacklist. The Moon Jae-in administration attempted to muzzle the media through the Media Arbitration Act. Although the methods differ, the direction was all about media control."
The civic group 'Gongjeong Eonlon-eul Saenggakhanun Saramdeul' (hereinafter Gongsaengsa) announced on the 23rd that it was launched on the 20th.
Gongsaengsa is an organization formed by moderate intellectuals who came together to correct the structure where partisan political conflicts are endlessly reproduced through biased media coverage amid an extreme two-party system.
Gongsaengsa pointed out, "In extreme polarization, the center has lost its ground," adding, "The majority of the people are moderate, but unfortunately, the channels to represent them are blocked."
Going forward, Gongsaengsa plans to accelerate efforts to create a 'fair media' environment by monitoring and evaluating government media policies and media coverage.
The founding members include Kwak Su-jong (Director of Lien Economic Research Institute), Kim Seok-su (Director of Direct Democracy Research Institute), Kim Han-gyu (lawyer), Ahn Hye-jin (CEO of Hertz Korea), Yeo Sang-won (lawyer), Lee Jong-hoon (political commentator), and Heo Man-seop (professor at Wonju Gangneung University).
