[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] The Democratic Party of Korea criticized President Yoon Seok-yeol’s explanation regarding the ‘profanity’ controversy as a ‘lie.’ The Democratic Party raised comprehensive responsibility issues concerning the diplomatic and security lineup of the Yoon Seok-yeol administration, including the dismissal of Foreign Minister Park Jin.
On the 23rd, Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party, said at the Supreme Council meeting held at the National Assembly regarding President Yoon’s profanity controversy, "I really have nothing to say. What can I say?" He added, "The people must have felt great humiliation and a severe blow to their self-esteem," and said, "From my experience, if you take the wrong path, turning back is the fastest solution."
Park Hong-geun, floor leader of the Democratic Party, criticized, "What the presidential office released after a full thirteen hours was not a sincere confession of apology but a false explanation," adding, "Not only did they disgrace the nation’s dignity with humiliating and empty-handed diplomacy, but now they anger the people with false explanations following the profanity scandal." Park said, "Even if the person responsible for the disaster was worried about the diplomatic aftermath and tried to evade it, is it necessary to give false explanations? Lies are worse than abusive language, and the people cannot accept them." He continued, "Are the 169 Democratic Party lawmakers really XX?" and said, "President Yoon must directly apologize for this diplomatic disaster, deceiving the people with lies and bringing international disgrace."
He also demanded responsibility for Minister Park. Park said, "If Minister Park’s incompetence, which severely damaged the nation’s dignity due to countless errors and disasters related to the diplomatic tour, is not immediately addressed by dismissal, the National Assembly will surely hold him accountable."
Democratic Party senior spokesperson Ahn Ho-young said, "This can be seen as a diplomatic disaster, so those responsible for diplomacy and security must take overall responsibility," adding, "A sincere apology from the president is necessary, and consideration of dismissal of former Minister Park and related matters is needed."
