[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Juri] Four men, including business owners, were arrested on charges of employing Korean male students without employment qualifications to work at a "Boy bar" in Japan. They are suspected of violating the Refugee Act and other charges.
According to local media such as the Yomiuri Shimbun, the owners of "Boy Prince" were caught on the 15th for illegally employing 40 Korean students at two bars in Tokyo's Shin-Okubo area, the report said on the 21st.
According to the report, the owners are charged with having Korean men in their 30s, residing on student visas, perform entertainment services involving food and drinks in front of JR Shin-Okubo Station from April to August.
The business is estimated to have generated sales of approximately 335 million yen (about 3.24 billion Korean won) since February last year through these activities.
About 80% of the employees at the establishment were Korean men.
According to the Metropolitan Police Department, most of the customers at the establishment were Japanese women. The owners reportedly denied some of the charges, stating that they were not aware that their actions were illegal at the time.
