[Asia Economy Reporter Baek Kyunghwan] The average wealth of the presidential office staff appointed last June was found to be 3.8 billion KRW. Half of them owned or resided in homes in the three Gangnam districts of Seoul, and a considerable number also owned homes in the so-called 'Mayongseong' areas of Mapo, Yongsan, and Seongdong districts.
The Government Officials Ethics Committee published the high-ranking officials' asset registration details containing this information in the electronic official gazette on the 23rd.
The average wealth of the 16 newly appointed secretary-level and senior aides in the presidential office in June was 3.83 billion KRW. In the previous month's asset disclosure, 13 presidential office aides reported an average wealth of 3.43 billion KRW.
The individual reporting the highest wealth this time was Kim Dongjo, the Speech Records Secretary, with 12.417 billion KRW. Secretary Kim's wealth was concentrated in stocks. He held 32,400 shares of unlisted stock in Korea Holdings, 7,400 shares of Korea Steel, and 6,600 shares of Korea Steel International. The total stock assets amounted to 11.66 billion KRW.
Jang Sungmin, Policy Coordination Planning Officer (currently Future Strategy Planning Officer) of the Presidential Secretariat, reported owning 3.95 billion KRW including an apartment in Banpo, Seocho-gu, and Cho Seongkyung, Science and Technology Secretary, reported 3.57 billion KRW. Wang Yoonjong, Economic Security Secretary of the National Security Office, reported 7.32 billion KRW. Lim Sangbeom, Security Strategy Secretary under the First Deputy Director of the National Security Office, reported 4.62 billion KRW, and Lee Moonhee, Diplomatic Secretary, reported 3.72 billion KRW. Additionally, Kang Inseon, Overseas Public Relations Secretary, reported a total of 6.814 billion KRW including an apartment in Apgujeong-dong Hyundai, and Kim Youngtae, Director of Public Communication, reported 3.292 billion KRW.
Among the 16 presidential office aides, half, or 8, owned or resided in homes in the three Gangnam districts of Seoul. Four aides were identified as owning apartments in Mapo, Yongsan, and Seongdong districts.
