Hyun Young-seok, Vice Chairman of Hyundai Heavy Industries, Receives 'Genie Awards'

Recognition for Paradigm Innovation in Shipbuilding Industry through Eco-friendly and Digital Advances

[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Seoyoon] Han Young-seok, Vice Chairman of Hyundai Heavy Industries, was selected as the recipient of the ‘3rd GENIE Awards’ for his contributions to strengthening the global competitiveness of South Korea’s shipbuilding industry.


Hyundai Heavy Industries announced that Vice Chairman Han received the ‘GENIE Awards’ at the ‘3rd GENIE Forum’ held on the 22nd in Jeonju, Jeollabuk-do.


Vice Chairman Han was recognized for his significant role in overcoming the prolonged recession by leading the paradigm shift in the shipbuilding industry towards eco-friendly and digital technologies, thereby enhancing the global competitiveness of South Korea’s shipbuilding industry.


Han stated, “I will strive even harder to elevate the global status of South Korea’s shipbuilding industry through bold investments and technological innovation, and contribute to balanced regional development by restarting the Gunsan shipyard.”


Han decided to donate the entire prize money of $10,000 to the Hyundai Heavy Industries Group 1% Sharing Foundation.


The Hyundai Heavy Industries Group 1% Sharing Foundation is funded by employees of Hyundai Heavy Industries Group donating 1% of their salaries and carries out various social contribution projects. The prize money donated by Han will be used to support vulnerable groups in the Jeollabuk-do region.


Meanwhile, the ‘3rd GENIE Forum,’ held over two days starting today, is a global economic forum hosted by the National Balanced Development Committee, Jeollabuk-do, Jeonju City, and the National Pension Service.


The GENIE Awards recognize domestic and international innovators or organizations with achievements in the global economy and finance sectors. Previous recipients include the Obama Foundation and Koo Ja-yeol, Chairman of the LS Board, who were awarded in the 1st and 2nd editions respectively.
