SK Gas Donates 200 Million KRW Charity Fund to Families with Learning Deficits

[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Seoyoon] SK Gas announced on the 22nd that it has donated 200 million KRW to support underprivileged (multicultural, unification-related, etc.) and low-income students nationwide who have faced difficulties attending academies due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic.

On the same day, SK Gas participated in an agreement ceremony to support education for students with learning deficits held at the Korea Academy Federation headquarters. SK Gas decided to donate a total of 200 million KRW through this agreement, consisting of 100 million KRW collected from employee donations through various internal events and 100 million KRW from the company’s internal fund. This amount can support academy fees for more than 160 students for one year.

The total scale of the learning deficit support project is approximately 1 billion KRW and will be provided for one year from December this year to November next year. Vouchers equivalent to 50% of the academy tuition fees per person (up to 100,000 KRW) will be provided monthly. The beneficiaries are underprivileged and low-income elementary, middle, and high school students who require learning and special aptitude education. Additionally, each city and provincial branch shares related academy information with education support offices, local governments, and community child centers to receive student recommendations.

Last year, SK Gas announced its ESG Master Plan, a mid- to long-term comprehensive plan to strengthen ESG management, and established a plan to pursue coexistence with stakeholders through fulfilling social responsibilities in the Social sector.

According to the ESG Master Plan, SK Gas selected three main support directions this year: 'Green, Health, and Vulnerable Groups.' Following a 450 million KRW donation to ‘Anna’s House’ in June to support meals for the homeless, SK Gas is actively engaging its employees in addressing various social issues in daily life, including this learning deficit education support, leading the practice of ESG management.
