[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Jun-hee) is playing a significant role in boosting the confidence of young people preparing for employment and helping them live proudly as members of the local community.
Since April, the district has been conducting the 'Youth Challenge Camp' in collaboration with the Seoul Youth Center Gwanak Orang Youth Culture Space 'Sillim-dong Three Room.'
The 'Youth Challenge Camp' is a youth challenge support project led by the Ministry of Employment and Labor that discovers young people who have given up on job seeking and provides customized programs to boost their motivation and confidence, supporting their participation in the labor market and employment promotion.
For young people who have given up on job seeking, the program offers a 40-hour customized employment competency enhancement course, including personalized counseling, support for healthy lifestyle management and confidence recovery, career exploration through field visits and consulting, and job-seeking skills such as image making and interview consulting.
Youths who complete the program receive an incentive of 200,000 KRW per person, and follow-up management is promoted by linking to the National Employment Support System. Additionally, they are connected to various employment support projects at 'Sillim-dong Three Room' to increase their employment motivation.
So far, four sessions of the 'Youth Challenge Camp' have been operated, with 75 out of 84 participants completing the program, showing a completion rate close to 90%. The project achievement rate currently ranks first nationwide among 28 operating institutions.
The fifth and final session of this year will recruit 32 participants on a first-come, first-served basis until October 25, with the first class scheduled for October 26.
Anyone aged 18 (born in 2004) to 34 (born in 1988) who has not had employment experience for more than six months recently and is not participating in any education or training program can apply.
Gwanak-gu, which has the highest youth population ratio, operates the 'Sillim-dong Three Room' opened in 2019 as a hub for comprehensive youth policy counseling, youth social network formation programs, and comprehensive counseling participation-expert linkage programs in psychology and career, providing a communication space for youth activities.
The district plans to establish a Youth Culture Bureau through the 8th term organizational restructuring to lay the foundation for systematic youth policies and job projects, and then open the 'Gwanak Youth Center' to fully support various youth job-seeking activities.
Mayor Park Jun-hee said, "I hope the Youth Challenge Camp will provide a foundation for young people to gain confidence and achieve stable employment," adding, "We will continue to do our best so that young people can take the lead and live proudly as members of the local community."
