'2022 Major 20 Countries (G20) Global Financial Stability Conference' to be Held on the 21st
[Asia Economy Sejong=Reporter Kwon Haeyoung] The government and the Korea Development Institute (KDI) will jointly hold a conference to diagnose the acceleration of monetary tightening in major countries and global economic risk factors.
The Ministry of Economy and Finance and KDI announced on the 18th that they will jointly open the '2022 G20 Global Financial Stability Conference' on the 21st at the Plaza Hotel in Seoul.
Now in its 8th year, this conference brings together domestic and international scholars in the fields of economics and finance, as well as policymakers from various countries, to proactively diagnose global economic risk factors and seek countermeasures. It will be held under the theme of 'Recent Risk Factors in International Financial Markets and the Future of the International Financial System.'
First, the conference will review the impact of recent acceleration of monetary tightening in major countries, geopolitical risks, and other global economic risk factors on international financial markets and the debt repayment burden of low-income countries, as well as possible responses. Discussions will also cover the ripple effects of accelerated monetary tightening on international financial markets and improvements in governance and efficient operation methods of international financial institutions to strengthen the global financial safety net. Additionally, there will be discussions on the impact of the spread of digital assets on future financial stability, changes in financial markets, and the G20's leadership in addressing pressing global economic challenges such as climate change.
Professor Maurice Obstfeld of UC Berkeley will deliver the keynote speech. The opening remarks will be given by Bang Gi-seon, 1st Vice Minister of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, and Ko Young-sun, Acting President of KDI, followed by congratulatory remarks from Kim So-young, Vice Chairperson of the Financial Services Commission. In the afternoon, a special speech (via video) by Perry Warjiyo, Governor of the Bank of Indonesia, is scheduled.
The conference will also be broadcast live through the Ministry of Economy and Finance and KDI YouTube channels.
