[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Hee-jun] Choi Go-ung (35) made his first-ever hole-in-one.

Choi Go-ung recorded a hole-in-one during the second round of the KPGA Korean Tour Bizplay Electronic Times Open held on the Blackstone Jeju South and East Course (par 72, 7,385 yards) in Hallim-eup, Jeju City on the 17th. The lucky shot came at the 13th hole (par 3), which is 184 yards away. Choi Go-ung attempted the shot with a 7-iron, and the ball, leaving a divot mark, settled next to the hole and was immediately sucked into the cup.

This was Choi Go-ung’s first hole-in-one in his career and the first hole-in-one ever recorded in this tournament. A hole-in-one is considered a ‘lucky record,’ with a probability of about 1 in 3,500 for professional players. Choi Go-ung also received a Mercedes-Benz The New EQA as a prize.

Choi Go-ung said, “There was a slicing wind, so I aimed to the left of the pin, and I just saw the ball roll toward the pin with the wind.” He added, “I didn’t think it went in and was surprised when I got onto the green and saw that it really did.” He smiled and said, “I was already thinking about changing my car, so this was a great opportunity.”

This tournament was originally scheduled to start on the 15th but was shortened to 54 holes due to bad weather on the day. After the second round on this day, the final round will conclude the tournament on the 18th. The total prize money is 700 million won, with the winner’s prize being 140 million won. The winner will also receive a two-year tour card and 1,000 Genesis points.
