[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Hyowon] Toptoon JP, operated by Topcomedia providing services in Japan, announced on the 16th that it attracted 200,000 subscribers in about two months since its official service launch in July, surpassing the repurchase rate of paid subscribers of Toptoon in Korea.
Topcomedia distributes various Toptoon contents to the Japanese market while operating its own platform, Toptoon JP, within Japan.
A representative of Toptoon JP stated, “The webtoons we primarily service are composed of stories and art styles preferred by the MZ generation in Japan, leading to rapid word-of-mouth among Japanese subscribers,” and added, “We aim to achieve annual sales exceeding 30 billion KRW solely in Japan next year.” They also mentioned plans to expand promotional marketing efforts to achieve this goal.
Earlier this year, Topcomedia acquired the Japanese webtoon business division from Toptoon and succeeded in ending three consecutive years of deficits and turning a profit based on platform sales and distribution revenue within Japan.
Yoo Jungseok, CEO of Topcomedia, expressed confidence, saying, “We must continuously provide high-quality content, which is the core of our business. We will recruit top talent from around the world, including Japan, and strengthen Topcomedia’s own studio to contribute to the development of Korea’s webtoon industry, the origin country of webtoons. Through expanding content exports and imports, we will ensure greater rewards for creators.”
